I'm a lady in her 40's who loves her beauty products! No makeup makeup is my game & pretty packaging gets me every time, though I'm willing to forgive that with skincare (but only if the product is effective!).

I'm a Stewardess who prefers quiet spaces and places, but I could talk all beauty all the time! Please enjoy your visit!

Oribe: What I've Tried So Far

Oribe: What I've Tried So Far

My hair is fairly coarse, with a lot of wiry greys and it leans toward the dry side. It's not as thick as it used to be, which on one hand is kind of nice because I no longer feel I have to get it thinned out. On the other hand, I can see the effects especially in my hairline around my forehead...and it also makes me a little nervous for the future??? I guess that's what extensions and wigs are for ha ha <she says cautiously>.

Regardless, my mane (tee hee!) goal is to have hair that is shiny, soft, moisturized and has some bounce. I was a hardcore Body Shop shampoo and conditioner user for a long time - I think it was the olive oil range? Then it was Aveda for close to a decade. I still use some Aveda products, but over the past several years have really tried to seek out product that is better for my aging hair. One of my most notable flops was the OI range from Davines - way too heavy and made my hair look stuck to my head.

But fear not!!! After testing out a number of brands & products, I've come to really love most of what I've tried from Oribe and have been really happy with the results!

Gold Lust Repair and Restore Shampoo & Conditioner - My favorite shampoo & conditioner combo so far. It gives me all the things I'm looking for - super softness, moisture, shine, a little bounce. It's rich without weighing down my hair, and there's no heavy fragrance. I love it so much that I took the big plunge and bought these jumbo ones!!

Gold Lust Transformative Masque (not pictured) - Amazingly, I didn't find this isn't as effective as the Gold Lust Repair and Restore Conditioner. I finished an entire tube, but would not repurchase because I'd rather have the Gold Lust Conditioner instead.

Signature Shampoo and Conditioner (not pictured) - It's almost a toss up between this and the Gold Lust combo because the Signature line makes my hair REALLY bouncy...like, I feel as though I just got a fresh blow out at the salon type of bounce!!! But the Gold Lust wins only because it slightly edges the Signature out in the other categories. If you have hair that isn't coarse like mine, I'd highly recommend trying it out.

Shampoo and Conditioner for Brilliance and Shine - I only tried this sample, but was especially impressed with how SHINY SHINY SHINY it made my hair. I received quite a lot of compliments for the few days after using it, with people saying I had pretty hair vs. the 'I like your greys' that I get these days ha ha! The shine factor isn't enough to make me buy the full size or stray from the Gold Lust though, because it didn't quite do it for me in the other categories - softness, moisture, bounce. If there was some magical way to combine the shine of this range + the bounce of the Signature range + everything else about the Gold Lust range...well, I think I'd have found hair Heaven!!! But that's not reality for now, so if I had to rank all of them for my hair type it would be: 1 - Gold Lust, 2 - Signature, 3 - Brilliance and Shine.

Gold Lust Dry Shampoo - I liked this probably as much as my old favorite, the Klorane Dry Shampoo. I found it worked better though if I applied it at night, then brushed through in the morning. I could go probably an extra 2 days without washing my hair, but by that last day I feel like it starts to get a tad meh and not feeling so great. I won't purchase after finishing this trial size though. I like - no LOVE - the Ouai Dry Texturizing Hair Spray that also doubles as a dry shampoo for me, so there's no need for a regular dry shampoo in addition!

Dry Texturizing Spray - I tried this a few years ago and wasn't too impressed with it, but in defense of the spray I was only just exploring different types of hair products and didn't really know what to do with it or how to make it work to my advantage. Since then, I've tried quite a few texturizing sprays and this definitely is one of my favorites (I now have a rotation of 3 that I use for different purposes, including this one!).

I split the top 1/3 of my hair into 3 layers and lightly spray this (in short bursts) toward the roots...flip my hair upside down to let it settle for about 30 seconds...then flip back and kind of tousle everything. Then I lightly spray it on some of my ends to give them a little lift and texture. Now, I don't think this gives my hair super volume or anything, but what it does do is allow me to keep tussling my hair throughout the day without being sticky or feeling funky. For the same reasons, the Dry Texturizing spray also doesn't feel like it builds up on non-hair washing days and since using this I've kicked my dry shampoo habit - that itself is a huge win!!

Buuuuut...all that said, after I finish all my bottles (I have the large and at least a couple of travel sizes), I won't repurchase it. As mentioned above, I love the Ouai Dry Texturizing Spray more than the Oribe so I'll be sticking to that. Well, unless I find something else of course ha ha!

However, if your hair is more fine and not so coarse like mine you'll probably prefer the Oribe. The Ojai is a little more hardcore. Not crazy hardcore, but definitely has more OOOMPH to it.

Balm d'Or (heat protectant, not pictured) - This dried my hair out something terribly, and actually took a couple of weeks to get back to normal. That's a no from me ha ha!

Overall, my experience with Oribe has been really positive and there are a few other products I'd still like to try from the brand. It's pricey to go all in on full sizes, but the shampoos & conditioners at least are available in travel sizes to test out before hand. Also, if you can wait to purchase the full sizes during goody bag events, such as Barneys and SpaceNK, it might make it more worth it!

What do you think of Oribe haircare? Any hits or misses for you?
